It was the beginning of the Christmas season, and he was heartened to see that despite the war’s rationing there was still a rousing fire in the fireplace. He had not seen Inspector Crowe for some days, but there the man was, writing letters – no doubt working on another of his cases. No doubt intent upon his work, it took the detective some time to notice his friend, but when he did there was a smile upon his face.
“
Hola, mi amigo,” he cried, “I must apologize most profusely for neglecting you these past few weeks, but I am at work on what I believe will be considered my most important case. But that it is good to see you! Indeed, I am organizing a little
reunión in connection with it.”
Crowe got up, taking most of the letters with him. Left behind was a brochure for a small boarding house in the south of England – and a letter addressed to his friend. He ran his eyes over it, taking in the salient points. “Warmsley Inn...” “your instructions...” “murders.”
...
The letter was unsettling, to be sure, but it was the last line that gave him pause. He looked up, confused. “What the devil," he thought, "can he mean by this mention of werewolves?”
And he wondered, once again, what was happening at the Warmsley Inn...
Let's have a nice Edwardian Mystery together, shall we?
More information to come, but if you're looking for a baseline, you can look up
The Mousetrap and see what we're going for here.
One of the problems with normal Werewolf games is the overwhelming power of the Seers and the relative uselessness of ordinary players. As you may know, detective fiction of this time (especially Christie's stuff) relied heavily on archetypes -- a story would always have a detective, usually an assistant, a retired army man, etc etc. Why not a game wherein everyone's role is hinted at in their identity, which would be public... and in which everyone, therefore, would have a special ability? That's the basic idea here, with a few twists here and there.
